Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, along with his son MP Shrikant and other family members, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital on Saturday and discussed several issues related to the state.
Describing it as a courtesy call, he said he had briefed the Chief Minister on several development projects underway in Maharashtra, and the situation after heavy rains in the state.
A Maharashtrian man came with his wife, father, son, daughter-in-law and grandson.
The meeting comes amid news of unease in Shinde’s Shiv Sena alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state after the NCP faction led by Ajit Pawar joined the ruling alliance. Since the accession of the Ajit faction to the government, there have been talks in the Maharashtra political constituency that the NCP leader has been promised the post of Chief Minister and Shinde’s position is in jeopardy, which Shinde Sena dismissed as speculation.
Speaking to the media after his meeting with Modi, Shinde said that he briefed the chief minister on several issues related to the state – heavy showers, landslide in Raigad district (which claimed at least 26 lives and left 80 missing), Dharavi redevelopment project, among others.
“It was a courtesy meeting,” he said afterwards. “Modi Ji briefed him on the ongoing development and redevelopment projects in the state, and also informed him of the rain-related incidents, including the landslide in Irchalwadi.”
He said the chief minister has also been informed of the issues faced by farmers in the state.
Later in the day, Shinde, along with his family members, paid a courtesy visit to Home Minister Amit Shah and briefed him on the situation in the state.
This is Shinde’s second visit to Delhi. On July 18, he went to the national capital to attend the NDA electorate meeting, chaired by the prime minister.
Shinde said it was an honor for him to have the opportunity to move the resolution adopted by the NDA at that meeting.
Upon meeting with Shah, Shrikant Shinde, Lok Sabha Member of Parliament and son of the Chief Minister, said, “Amit Bhai took time out of his busy schedule to interact with us…. A replica of the equestrian statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was presented. A positive discussion took place between the Union Home Minister and the Chief Minister, in which several issues of Maharashtra were taken up.”
Shiv Sena UBT leader and MLA Aaditya Thackeray has criticized Shinde during visits to Delhi “again and again”. He said: What is the reason for that (these visits)? Will there be a change in the leadership of the current measure in the country? He visits Delhi every week and there is no one to take care of the people in the state.”
