Shortly after the accident, panic struck the area and local residents rushed to the aid of the trapped workers and alerted the authorities to seek help.
Upon arrival at the site, the police found the body of a worker who died on the spot. The dead man was identified as Shankar Prasad, a resident of Gosha Mod in Sainik Colony.

Over the past few weeks, Uttarakhand has been hit by heavy rains and flash floods which have caused accidents and traffic clashes. On Wednesday, a temporary iron bridge was washed away in a cloudy outburst in Kalapani district near the India-China border amid heavy rain.
According to BRO Commander Harish Kotnala, the bridge was 100 feet long and had a loading capacity of three tons. He said another 100-meter stretch of road leading to Kalapani and Lipolech security posts on the Indo-China border was also swept away by blast clouds.
