It’s been a decade since Gautham Vasudev Menon announced his ambitious spy thriller, Dhruva Natchatiram. Recently, the director shared an update on the matter. He said that the film is still alive and will be released in theaters one day. In 2013, Gautham announced the film with Suriya as the lead, but it was eventually shelved. It was revived again in 2016 with Vikram Surya replacing, Create a huge buzz around the movie.
Teasers and the first single added to the already high anticipation for this spy thriller. However, due to Gautham’s financial difficulties, the project was delayed for about seven years, and as of now, there is no confirmation of its release date.
Now, the director has revealed that an exciting update is in the pipeline and will be delivered to the public soon. “I understand I have used the word ‘soon’ many times in this context, but please trust me here. We are all set to release the trailer in a few days. Once the movie is out, it will make its way to theaters very soon. All necessary tasks related to the movie have been completed,” Gotham told Sun News.
He also revealed that he will build a cinematic universe around Dhruva Natchathiram. Gautham further stated that though all the actors gave exceptional performances, Malayalam actor Vinayakan’s portrayal would really stand out.
Recently, the makers of Dhruva Natchathiram’s second single, titled His Name Is John. The film stars Radikaa Sarathkumar, Ritu Varma, Radhakrishnan Parthiban, Simran, Vinayakan, Divya Dharshini, Munna Simon, Vamsi Krishna, Salim Baig, Sathish Krishnan, Maya S Krishnan among others.
Referring to one of the biggest films of his career, Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu (2006) starring Kamal Haasan, which was re-released after 17 years last month, Gautham said, “It’s hard to believe that this movie still gets such a huge reception.” Gautham Menon also expressed his gratitude to producer Manickam Narayanan for turning the project into a tangible achievement.
“Initially, I shared the story of Pachikili Muthashram with Mr. Kamal. However, he did not find it impressive, and this was during the period when Dasavathaaram discussions were taking place. Then Kamal sir urged me to direct Dasavathaaram, but I refused due to its difficult technical requirements. Later, I offered him the story of Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu, which he loved and accepted,” Gautham recalls.
Noting that Kamal Haasan was initially apprehensive about the film, Gautham said, “He kind of complained to producer Narayanan sir several times asking what we’re doing. ‘They just make me walk all the time,'” Kamal sir said to the producer.
He also thanked Music Director Harris Jayaraj and Lyricist Thamarai for their impeccable contributions. “The music pushed the movie forward.”
The director has also stated that he has finished crafting the script and is very satisfied with the end result. He added, “I am aware of Kamal Sidi’s previous commitments, so I will contact him about the project in due course.”
