Police said three passengers were killed, and two others were in critical condition after a concrete truck collided with an Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APRTC) bus in a village in Anamaya district on Saturday.

It is a straight road, not a black spot. Annamaya District Police Superintendent R Gangadhara Rao told the agency, the truck (concrete lorry) made a sharp left-to-right turn and collided with the bus.

According to the SP, the bus was heading from Tirupati to Kadapa and managed to avoid a head-on collision, but the truck also turned in the same direction as the bus and hit it in the middle.

Rao said following the accident that the bus sustained damage and most of the front seats were shattered, leaving three dead while two are in critical condition. Besides, a number of others were injured.

Moreover, the truck driver sustained two broken legs and is currently undergoing treatment.

Rao said the police have yet to ascertain whether the truck driver was drunk.
