Central Bharatiya Janata Party Attack on opposition parties Veteran Congress leader P Chidambaram responded on violence against women in their states, saying how the situation in Manipur compares to states like Bihar, West Bengal and Rajasthan. Political protests were ignited by a viral video showing Koki women being paraded topless in violence-hit Manipur.

“Let us acknowledge that there have been incidents of violence against women in Bihar, West Bengal and Rajasthan. How does this justify the relentless continuation of violence in Manipur?” he wrote on Twitter.

“How does the situation in Manipur compare to the situation in Bihar, West Bengal and Rajasthan?” Chidambaram has been added. He said, “If there is a need for tough action in Bihar, West Bengal and Rajasthan, definitely ask the state governments to take stronger action, but this does not excuse the barbarism that is taking place in Manipur.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday leaned on the opposition-ruled states as he condemned the latest incident in Manipur. “Be it Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Manipur or any part of the country, maintenance of law and order and respect for women should be placed above any political discussion,” he said.

Union ministers attacked Anurag Thakur, Smriti Irani and other leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party, state governments led by the opposition in response to the parties’ criticism of the government in Manipur.

Chidambaram also claimed that ethnic cleansing was almost complete in the state, which has seen clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities since the beginning of May.

“Are any cokes left in the valley? Are there any Metis left in Churachandpur and other hill areas of Manipur? If the reports are true, the ethnic cleansing is almost complete in Manipur.”

Chidambaram further said that there had been a “collapse of the constitutional government in Manipur” and that “the matter of the prime minister and his ministers does not go beyond their homes and offices”.

He added, “The central government has not only been incompetent and partisan, it is callous and callous when it hides behind a smokescreen of hateful comparisons… The government of Manipur has collapsed. The government of India is in a self-induced coma.”

On Saturday, the Manipur Police arrested a total of six people, including one juvenile, in connection with the Manipur video case, which showed two women parading naked to a mob. While two of the accused were arrested today, four people were taken into police custody for 11 days on Friday, following their arrests on Thursday.
