The shooting took place in the village of Nyakova, on the shores of Lake Albert, in the Ituri province of eastern Congo.
“The soldier shot everyone around him. Ten people were killed,” Ituri army spokesman Jules Ngongo said by telephone.
He said search teams are searching for the soldier, a member of the Congolese Navy, and an investigation has been launched into the incident.
