Police announced Sunday that one conure was killed and 12 others injured when the truck they were traveling in collided with a speeding truck here.
The accident took place at the Dharamshala flyover around 2 am on Saturday evening, they said.
A group of kanwariyas were going to the Moteshwer Mahadev temple at Pipraich after collecting water from the Saryu river.
When they reached the Dharamshala overpass, the police said, a speeding truck collided with the tractor trolley they were traveling in, killing one and injuring 12 others.
The deceased has been identified as Akash Gupta (17). They added that the injured were taken to the area hospital, and one of them was transferred to the Faculty of Medicine for treatment.
They said the truck driver managed to flee the scene but was later arrested.
District Magistrate Krishna Karunesh and Superintendent of Police Gaurav Grover visited the district hospital and medical college and met the injured.
