Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal defeated Dalibor Severchina of the Czech Republic in straight sets to claim the Tampere Open title.
Nagal beat Severcina 6-4, 7-5 to emerge victorious.
This also happens to be Nagal’s fourth ATP Challenger title in five matches, and it was his second of the year, after winning the Garden Open title in Rome in April.
Nagal got off to a shaky start to the match, losing his first match as Sfrtina led 3-0 and stretched to 4-1.
However, the Indian immediately regained his composure and broke in succession in three cases to send the Czech back, with the seventh-seeded Indian grabbing the opening set 6-4, courtesy of some fine play from the baseline.
After showing composure in the closing stages of the opening set, Nagal started positively in the next set and broke Svrcina to lead 4-1. However, the Czech fifth seed took advantage of his wit and broke right away to get things back. Regardless, the break wasn’t enough to upset Nagal, as he raised his ante and re-breaked Svrcina, eventually leading 5-3.
Svrcine was in no mood to go down without a fight, and engaged in a brutal exchange of volleys as the Indian served and broke again for a glimmer of hope to take the match to the decider. But, it seemed to be this kind of day for Severcina as he tried his best, only to be quickly overpowered by Nagal.
At 5-5, Nagal Svrcine broke again, taking a 6-5 lead. Serving it up in the tournament, the Czech engaged in some powerful punches in the dying moments and saved three match points. Finally, he fell on his fourth match point, as the Indian finished the contest in an hour and 44 minutes.
