In a June 2023 survey conducted by LocalCircles, 65% of UP households surveyed reported three or more outages in one day in Uttar Pradesh

A survey by LocalCircles found that at least 55% of households in Uttar Pradesh have experienced three or more outages per day in July so far, with 82% experiencing outages of anywhere between one and four hours, and 77% experiencing outages daily.

The first survey question asked respondents: “On average, how many times did the power go out in July so far (from the utility company) in your home each day?”

Out of the 4,206 residents of Uttar Pradesh who answered this question, 77% indicated that they experience power outages daily this month; 55% of them indicated that they experience 3 or more blackouts.

The data shows that only 13% of respondents stated that “the power never or rarely goes out.” As for the rest, 19% of respondents reported that power outages occur once or twice a day. 19% indicated that it occurs 3-5 times a day. 30% indicated 6-10 times; 6% more than 20 times and 13% indicated that they “don’t know because we have power backup 24 x 7”.

In the June 2023 survey, when 65% of UP households surveyed reported three or more outages per day, in the July survey, the number dropped to 55%.

LASTS 2-4 hours a day, say 36% of households

The survey then asked residents: “On average, how many hours of power outage (from the utility company) did you experience each day in your home in July?”

This query received 4212 responses, of which 36% indicated that they experienced interruptions lasting more than two hours. The data shows that while 18% of the respondents indicated that “the power is never or rarely interrupted.” 46% stated it lasts “up to two hours”; And 36% stated it lasts “2-4 hours”.

In summary, 82% of UP residents still have to experience between 1 and 4 hours of blackouts in the month of July.

Compared to the June 2023 survey, which revealed that 74% of households in UP were experiencing power outages lasting more than two hours per day, in July, only 36% of households indicated they still experienced power outages of more than two hours per day.
