It was said on behalf of Ansari that the gang law was invoked against the former MP regarding his alleged involvement in the murder of BJP MLA Krishnan Wray and in this case, he was acquitted

The Allahabad High Court on Monday refused to stay the jail sentence of former MP Afzal Ansari handed down by the Gazipur Court in the Gangster Act 2007 case. However, the Court of Justice Raj Bir Singh granted him bail in his appeal against the verdict. Ansari has appealed the verdict by the MP/Special Mutual Legal Assistance Court in which he was sentenced to four years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh.

It was said on behalf of Ansari that the gang law was invoked against the former MP due to his alleged involvement in the murder of BJP MLA Krishnan Wray and in this case, he was acquitted.

However, the application was opposed on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government.

Afzal Ansari and his brother Mukhtar Ansari were convicted by the Special MP/AML Court of Gazipur on April 29 in the 2007 Gangster Law case. It sentenced Afzal Ansari to 4 years in prison and Mukhtar to 10 years. After the ruling of the Gazipur Court, Afzal Ansari was disqualified as a Member of Parliament.
