The Madras High Court has ordered the police to take immediate action against people causing disruption in the running of an old people’s home in the city. In deciding on the petition filed by M/s Athulya Assisted Living Pvt.Ltd, Judge N Anand Venkatesh in his last order said if necessary, protection should also be given to the petitioner to ensure that no one interferes in the running of the nursing home.

Direction has been given to the Inspector of Police, Pallavaram Police Station.

The petitioner claimed that he ran the home and provided health care services to the elderly. He has obtained the necessary license in this regard.

Appearing on behalf of the petitioner, Senior Advocate Abudu Kumar said that the people in and around the venue were posing a threat to the petitioner and were bent on causing trouble, after which he filed a police complaint recently.

He added that although the FIR was registered, the threat perspective still persisted and hence, the petitioner approached the court.

In his order, the judge said that if the petitioner manages the home by having a proper license and it is registered under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Older Persons Rules, 2009, no person can be allowed to interfere with the same and cause any threat.
