The third meeting of the G20 Tourism Working Group will be held in Srinagar from May 21-23

An official on Saturday said the upcoming G20 meeting to be held here is a great opportunity to promote the tourism potential of Jammu and Kashmir globally as it will show the world that the union territory is a great destination for all.

The third meeting of the G20 Tourism Working Group will be held in Srinagar from May 21-23.

Tourism Minister Syed Abid Rashid Shah told reporters on the sidelines of the launch of the trailer for “Welcome to Kashmir” at Inox Cinemas here that the department has identified 300 new destinations for filming and will facilitate production houses.

He said, “The third meeting of the G20 Tourism Working Group is being held in Kashmir which in itself is a major international event. I don’t think such a major international event has happened in Jammu and Kashmir before.”

“Be it adventure tourism or leisure tourism, or our areas of focus in film tourism and convention tourism, we are working to capture the world’s attention and this event is a great opportunity to promote it on a global level. The event will show the world that Jammu and Kashmir is a great destination for everyone to come and enjoy.”

Jammu and Kashmir was a major destination for film tourism in the 1960s and 1970s.

Shah said the Ministry of Tourism and Administration’s efforts are aimed at making the Union Territory a major destination for cinema tourism again so that people come here instead of going to Switzerland, France and the Alps.

Last year, he said, more than 200 films, web series and TV series were shot in Jammu and Kashmir.

“In the coming year, our effort is that as a subset of tourism, film tourism is so promoted both inside and outside the country that hitherto untouched beautiful destinations and locations will be much better than some of the most beautiful European destinations on the map.”

The Minister of Tourism said that there is a one-stop center for all necessary permits.

There is an online portal, he said, and there is a conducive atmosphere so that film production units do not face any difficulty.

On the shooting of Shahrukh Khan’s movie “Dinky” in Kashmir last month, Shah said major production houses and movie stars come to the valley to shoot movies.

“I want to extend a sincere invitation to all who are interested in photography in Jammu and Kashmir, both within the country and abroad. This year, we are expecting 300 new destinations and they can choose any of them. The government of Jammu and Kashmir is coming and will facilitate you in every way.”
