Arsenal will be aiming for three points when they meet Newcastle United on Sunday (May 7) in the Premier League. Mikel Arteta’s side are trailing Manchester City in the title race and cannot afford to drop any more points.
Meanwhile, the Gunners are interested in Jonathan David. Elsewhere, the north side of London are eyeing a move for Wilfried Zaha. On that note, here’s a look at key Arsenal transfer stories as at 6 May 2023:
Arsenal want Jonathan David

Arsenal are interested in Jonathan David, according to journalist Graeme Bailey. The Canadian forward has been quietly impressive on Lille this season, scoring 23 goals and four assists in 35 appearances across competitions. Arsenal are likely to sign a new striker this summer with David on their radar.
Speaking on the Talking Transfer podcast, Bailey said Arsenal are unlikely to target Dusan Vlahović from Juventus, as he is expected to cost a fortune.
“A striker is something they look at too. I don’t think they’ll get to Vlahović’s level, but they still like him, but No. 9 is something they look at. We’ve probably heard someone like Jonathan David on the radar too; there’s a lot of money to spend depending on On the midfielder they get.”
With Folarin Balogun linked with a move away from the Emirates, David could be a smart buy for Arteta.
Arsenal have eyes on Wilfried Zaha

Arsenal are interested in luring Wilfried Zaha to the Emirates this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The Cote d’Ivoire international is set to become a free agent, as his contract with Crystal Palace expires at the end of the season. The 30-year-old has had a great run with the Eagles and is one of the most lethal forwards in the league.
Arteta is still keen to add more to his attack this summer and has identified Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby as an option. The French striker has enjoyed an incredible season with the Bundesliga side, scoring 14 goals and 11 assists in 43 appearances across competitions.
Arsenal want to bring the player to the Emirates at the end of the season. However, if they fail to turn the 23-year-old away, they can turn to Zaha.
Shaka Hislop urges Arsenal to sign Declan Rice

Former West Ham United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has advised Arsenal to sign Declan Rice.
The England midfielder enters the final year of his contract with the Hammers this summer but is expected to leave. The Gunners are leading the race to get his signature at the moment.
Speaking to Ladbrokes Fanzone, Heslop said Rice is likely to cost £80m this summer.
“Last year, David Moyes was talking about Rice being a £150m player… I’m not sure who would believe that, or who would spend that kind of money on a defensive midfielder. season, to maybe around the £80m mark… I think that would be fair market value for him,” said Hislop.
Heslop added that Arsenal is the ideal destination for the 24-year-old this summer.
“You look at where Declan Rice could go this summer; you know, if you were to pick him up from West Ham now and put him somewhere else… where is he better? Arsenal is an obvious choice,” Hislop said.
He completed:
“Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka are holding those positions now, and the latter, while he’s been good this season, I think at times has cost Arsenal – especially against Liverpool a few weeks ago. Maybe it’s time to move away from Xhaka, as the Rice case is a good fit.”
Rice played 238 games across competitions for West Ham, scoring 14 goals and 13 assists.
