Bellator MMA announced in a press release that they have re-signed reigning Women’s Featherweight Champion Cris Cyborg to a new multi-fight deal.

This is important for the upgrade as Cyborg is considered one of the greatest fighters of all time. She has been a free agent since successfully retaining the Women’s Featherweight Championship against Arlene Blencowe last year.

The Brazilian MMA legend made her debut at Bellator 238, where she defeated Julia Budd via TKO to become the new Women’s Featherweight Champion. It has been an impressive reign as she currently holds title defenses against Sinead Kavanagh, Leslie Smith and Blencowe twice.

In the press release, Scott Coker, President of Bellator, praised the women’s featherweight champion for her dominance and willingness to compete against anyone, saying:

“No athlete can match what Chris has done in or out of the cage, and my favorite part about Chris is her constant desire to take on all comers.”

It will be interesting to see how soon Bellator plans to book her next women’s featherweight title fight now that the new champion’s contract is official.

Who will Chris Cyborg fight next?

Kris Cyborg wasted little time paving the way for her first fight under her new deal with Bellator MMA.

The featherweight champion has responded to the promotion’s tweet about who should challenge her next. She sent out a tweet hinting that it’s former UFC title challenger Kat Zingano she’d like to fight next.

Zingano is currently riding a 4 fight winning streak and coming off a unanimous decision win over Leah McCourt at Bellator 293.
