Karnataka Elections 2023: As many as 27 ministers in the polled state of Karnataka have average assets of Rs 34.6 crores, followed by Andhra Pradesh with average assets of Rs 27.9 crores and Maharashtra with average assets of Rs 22.4 crores.

Karnataka, which will vote in the assembly elections on May 10, has topped the list of states with the highest average assets per minister, data released by the Association for Democratic Reforms has shown.

Up to 27 ministers in the poll’s state of Karnataka have average assets of Rs 34.6 crores, followed by Andhra Pradesh with average assets of Rs 27.9 crores and Maharashtra with average assets of Rs 22.4 crores.

“Of the 2,586 candidates analyzed, 1,087 (42%) are of positive disposition. In the 2018 Assembly elections, out of 2,560 candidates, 883 (35%) were candidates,” according to the ADR report.

The average assets per candidate for the 221 Congress candidates is Rs 49.83 crore, while it is Rs 39.41 crore for the 224 BJP. For the 208 analyzed JDS candidates, the average assets per candidate is Rs 24.45 crore. The figure stands at ₹4.25 crore for 208 AAP candidates.

With total assets of over Rs 1,674 crore, Shazia Tarannum, wife of Yosef Sharif aka KGF Babu, leads the list of candidates with the highest declared assets. N Nagaraj (MTB) of BJP is next with Rs 1,609 crore, while Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar is third with Rs 1,413 crore.

Former Congress leader and current JDS candidate Govindarajanagar Priyakrishna and Congress Byrathi Suresh occupies the fourth and fifth position, respectively with assets of Rs 1,156.83 crore and Rs 648.12 crore.

As many as 592 candidates (23%) in Karnataka elections declared assets worth more than Rs 5 crore and 272 candidates (11%) declared assets worth Rs 2 crore to Rs 5 crore.

Gurusiddappa Basalingappa Toggi, an independent candidate from Ramdurga constituency in Belagavi district revealed the lowest assets at Rs 500. 14 candidates disclosed that they had no assets.
