Gandhi spoke of promise again during interactions with gig workers and delivery people from various companies here in Karnataka linked to the survey.

Keeping in mind the difficulty of delivery people, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday reiterated his party’s promise to set up a Karnataka Gig Workers Welfare Council with a fund of Rs 3,000 crore and minimum hourly wages for them.

Gandhi spoke of promise again during interactions with gig workers and delivery people from various companies here in Karnataka linked to the survey.

Congress said in a party statement that Gandhi discussed with them over a cup of coffee and masala dosa to understand the life of delivery workers, the lack of stable employment and the rising prices of basic commodities.

The statement stated that he also listened intently to why young people took gig jobs, and what their working conditions were.

“Bengaluru alone has more than 2 lac people doing gig jobs. The Congress party made specific promises to them in the manifesto, mainly to set up a Gig Workers Welfare Council with a pool of Rs 3,000 crore and to guarantee minimum hourly wages for gig workers and other workers in the unorganized sector,” the party said. He said.

Gandhi later hopped on the backseat, and went on a ride with a delivery partner.
