The accused, Gagandeep, 32, owns a house in Agra
Delhi Police has arrested a man from Agra for allegedly raping a 62-year-old American woman under the pretext of marriage, officials said Monday.
They said the accused, 32-year-old Gagandeep, owns a house in Agra.
In her complaint, the victim alleged that she came to India in 2017 and stayed at Gagandeep’s house. Police said they later became friends and eventually entered into a relationship.
Over the next few years, she continued to visit India to meet Gagandeep and on several occasions, it was alleged that he had physical relations with her under the pretense of marriage.
The woman further alleged that once he also took her to Surjamal Vihar in Shahdara where he again had physical relations with her. Gagandeep also took her to Amritsar and other places and his family knew about their relationship. Police said they later discovered the man had been cheating on her.
On May 4, an FIR was registered under sections 376 (rape) and 328 (causing harm by using poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence) of the Indian Penal Code at the Vivek Vihar Police Station, a senior police officer said.
He said, “A case has been registered and based on the investigation, the accused Jaghandip was arrested from Agra on 6 May.”
