A spokesperson for the National Intelligence Agency said that with the recent arrests, the total number of people arrested for criminal conspiracy registered last year in the state has increased to 15.

An official said the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested five people and conducted searches at six locations in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday in connection with a case related to illegal activities of the outlawed People’s Front of India in the southern state.

The raids took place in Chennai, Madurai, Dindigul and Thene districts.

With the recent arrests, a spokesperson for the NIA said, the total number of people arrested for criminal conspiracy registered last year in the state has increased to 15.

The official identified the accused as Abdul Razak (47) from Chennai, Lawyer Muhammad Yousuf (35) and Lawyer Muhammad Abbas (45) from Madurai, Keizer A (45) from Dindigul and Sathik Ali (39) from Theni.

The place that was searched included the defendants’ properties, mostly homes and farms. The spokesperson said searches led to the recovery of a range of incriminating materials, including sharp weapons, digital devices and documents.

The NIA said: “Investigations revealed that the accused had conspired and planned to eliminate their ‘perceived enemies’ who did not adhere to the IFP’s ideology and opposed its plans to establish an Islamic state in India by 2047.”

The spokesman for the conspiracy said that the defendants had radicalized a large number of cadres of the People’s Democratic Front, especially the youth chosen by the group’s leadership, and had also trained them to use different types of weapons to assault, maim and kill. their opponents.

The case was initially registered on September 19 last year. The federal agency filed an indictment against 10 defendants on March 17.

The officials said the case was related to conspiracy and illegal activities such as fomenting enmity between different groups on the basis of religion and undertaking activities prejudicial to community harmony to disturb public peace and tranquility and stir up discontent against India.

They said the group was accused of organizing weapons training for its cadre.
