Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Nitish Rana has been fined for a slow over-rate during their match against the Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens on Monday, May 9. Attacking in this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023).

KKR was forced to bring another player into the ring. They were only able to have four in bounds for the final since they exceeded that time limit. The last over by Harshit Rana yielded 21 runs.

In a statement, IPL wrote:

“Since it was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL Code of Conduct regarding minimum over-par offenses, Mr. Rana was fined Rs. 12 lakh.”

As far as the match was concerned, KKR beat PBKS by five wickets while chasing a target of 180. Rana batted in from the front, scoring 51 off 38 balls, including a maximum and six fours. Jason Roy contributed 38 of the 24 deliveries. Andre Russell (42 from 23) and Rinku Singh (21 * from 10) ensured KKR crossed the line in a thrilling last-ball match.

For PBKS, Rahul Chahar emerged as the starting pitcher, returning with figures of 2/23.

Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan’s half-centuries and late booms from Shah Rukh Khan (21 from 8) and Harpreet Brar (17 from 9) steered his side to 179/7. Varun Chakaravarthy and Harshit Rana grabbed three and two wickets respectively.

Nitish Rana credited Rinku Singh and Andre Russell with their victory over the Punjab Kings on Monday. Speaking on the post-match show, the KKR captain said:

(On Renko) I kept telling him, believe in yourself because what you’ve achieved is something a lot of people will never do. When he was hitting, the whole crowd was chanting “Renko, Renko”.

He completed:

That’s what he won this year. I’ve been in this franchise for so many years now, I’m used to the Eden crowd yelling ‘Russell, Russell’ but hearing them yell ‘Renko, Renko’ makes me so happy and proud. That’s the respect he’s earned this season “.

KKR is currently on the 5th position in the latest IPL 2023 points table. Next Nitish Rana & Co. will host the Rajasthan Royals team led by Sanju Samson on Thursday 11th May.
