Police said police arrested a man in Sambalpur district of Odisha on Monday for allegedly beating his wife to death for not cooking rice.
The incident took place in Nawadi village, Jamankera police station area, on Sunday night.
The accused was identified as 40-year-old Sanatan Darua, while his wife was identified as 35-year-old Pushpa Darua.
Sanatan and Pushpa have a daughter and a son. Their daughter works as a housemaid in Kuchinda while the son has gone to a friend’s house to sleep on Sunday night.
When Sanatan returns home, he finds that Pushpa was only cooking curry and not rice. A police officer said this led to an argument between them, during which he attacked his wife and clubbed her to death.
The matter appeared after the son of the deceased returned to his home to find his mother dead. He informed the police, who seized the body and detained the husband.
Premjit Das, inspector of Jamankera Police Station, said an autopsy was conducted on Monday and the accused husband has been taken into custody.
