Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand declared Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior the best individual striker in world football.

Ferdinand told BT Sport as part of their coverage of the 1-1 UEFA Champions League first leg tie against Manchester City on Tuesday (9 May):

Vinicius is probably the most devastating 1v1 player in the world.

At 22 years old, Vinicius is fast becoming one of Real Madrid’s most important and exciting players.

The Brazilian forward has scored 22 goals and scored 21 in 50 appearances across all competitions this season. He now has 58 goals and 64 assists in 220 appearances since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2018.

He has caused all sorts of problems for some of the best right-backs in world football. Vinicius did so against Reece James in Los Merengues’ 4-0 aggregate win over Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-finals. Ferdinand had said after Vinicius’ offer in the first leg:

“Vinicius Jr. showed no respect to Rhys James tonight. Whenever I had the ball, it went straight to James.”

Vinicius’ electric pace and agility gave defenders nightmares on the left flank. His sudden burst of pace blends perfectly with the way Carlo Ancelotti builds his team up in attack. He hopes to outpace Kyle Walker in Madrid’s game with City on Tuesday.

Real Madrid offered Dani Ceballos a new contract, but without improving his role or salary

Dani Ceballos has been offered a new three-year deal.
Dani Ceballos has been offered a new three-year deal.

According to Spanish website Onda Betica, Real Madrid has offered Dani Ceballos a new three-year contract. The Spanish midfielder’s current contract expires at the end of the season.

Ceballos, 26, has been in a backup role for most of the season, starting just 16 of 40 games, contributing eight goals. However, he impressed when he was called up, and Los Blancos consider him a valuable player.

Hence, they have made a new contract extension offer that will keep him linked to the Bernabeu until 2026. However, the proposal does not include an improvement on his salary or role in the team. He is behind the likes of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Federico Valverde in the ranking.

Cellabos’ chances for a more significant role are jeopardized by the potential arrival of Jude Bellingham. Reports claim that the England midfielder is getting closer than ever to joining Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
