Anson Thomas, who actually appeared, referred to his letters to the ICJ on March 13 and April 17, and said that Judge Chandrachod should recuse himself on this very matter.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected an application seeking to disqualify India’s Chief Justice D. Y. Chandrachod from hearing petitions related to legal validation of same-sex marriage.

The five-judge Constitutional Commission, chaired by the International Criminal Court, has been hearing arguments for the ninth day on these petitions.

Anson Thomas, who actually appeared, referred to his letters to the ICJ on March 13 and April 17, and said that Judge Chandrachod should recuse himself on this very matter.

“Thank you, Mr. Thomas, the request is denied,” said the ICC, which was presiding over the arbitration panel that also included Judges S.K. Cole and S.R. Bhatt, Hema Kohli, and B.C. Narasimha.

Attorney General Tushar Mehta, who was present in court during the hearing, objected to the submissions for the ICC dismissal request.

“I have an objection to this (CJI’s disqualification petition), leave it up to this Lords…”, Mehta said, adding, “I object, because he has made these requests.” The hearing in this matter is ongoing.
