Prime Minister Modi placed the historic ‘Sengol’ near the chair of the Lok Sabha speaker in the new Parliament House and received blessings from various fortune tellers Adheenams of Tamil Nadu after the installation

The new parliament building was inaugurated in the early morning (a ritual fire ceremony) followed by interfaith prayers and a formal opening by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. After the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Modi placed the historic ‘Sengol’ near the Lok Sabha Speakers’ chair in the new Parliament House and received blessings from various diviners Adheenams of Tamil Nadu after the installation.

Prime Minister Modi bowed as a sign of respect in front of the ‘Sengol’ during the ceremony marking the beginning of the inauguration of the new Parliament House.

The first stage of the opening ceremony started at 7:30 am with a havan and puja (worship) near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and Lok Sabha Chairman Om Birla, among other dignitaries. The second phase of the program will begin around 12 noon with the playing of the national anthem, after which two short films will be screened.

After that, the Vice-President of the Rajya Sabha will recite two messages from the Vice-President and the President, followed by speeches by the Lok Sabha President Om Birla. A commemorative coin of Rs 75 and a stamp will also be issued during the event.

Representatives of 25 political parties and many dignitaries, including prime ministers and ministers, are expected to attend the ceremony. However, at least 20 opposition parties, including the Congress party, announced their boycott of Prime Minister Modi’s ceremony.
