The train will depart from New Jalpaiguri and reach Guwahati, stopping at New Cooch Behar, New Alipurduar, Kokrajhar, New Bongaigaon and Kamakhya along the way.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will stop Northeast India’s first Vande Bharat Express train connecting Guwahati in Assam and New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal via video conferencing at 12 noon on Monday. The modern train will provide the residents of the region with the means to travel quickly and comfortably and will enhance tourism in the region.

By connecting Guwahati with New Jalpaiguri, the train will significantly reduce the journey time, saving about one hour compared to the current fastest train between the two destinations. The official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office stated that the Vande Bharat Express train beats the current fastest train by taking 6 hours and 30 minutes on the same route, as the journey takes 5 hours and 30 minutes.

PM to open the Electrified Rail Sections, DEMU Shed

The Prime Minister will also open 182 kilometers of newly electrified railway sections, promoting environmentally friendly transport with faster train speeds and reduced travel time. This achievement not only facilitates cleaner and more efficient train operations, but also paves the way for electric traction-powered trains to enter Meghalaya, the statement said.

The PM will also unveil the newly built DEMU/MEMU shed in Lumding. This state-of-the-art facility will play a critical role in keeping DEMU balers operating in the region, ensuring improved operational viability and efficiency.

Vande Bharat Express routes

The newly launched Vande Bharat Express, operating six days a week, will travel from New Jalpaiguri to Guwahati, with stops at just four stops: New Alipurduar, Kokrajhar, New Bongaigaon and Kamakhya, providing fast and convenient transportation for IT professionals and businessmen. Business, students and tourists in the area. Riders can easily board and disembark at six stops along this route, News18 reports.

With its high speed, it will be the fastest train in the sector, and will provide great benefits to passengers.

From Wednesday to Monday, train No. 22227 will depart from New Jalpaiguri at 6:10 am, arriving in Guwahati by 11:40 am. On the return journey, train No. 22228 will depart from Guwahati at 4:30 PM, stopping at Kamakhya, New Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar and New Alipurduar before reaching New Jalpaiguri at 10:20 PM.

On Tuesday, the train will not run.

Vande bharat train speed

While the Vande Bharat Express will run at 110 km/h on this particular route, it has shown the ability to reach speeds of up to 180 km/h during testing. It should be noted that the Vande Bharat trains maintain a speed of 110 km/h on most routes.

Vande Bharat trains already exist in West Bengal, operating between New Jalpaiguri and Howrah, as well as between Howrah and Puri in Odisha. Known for their amenities and speed, these trains have gained immense popularity among commuters, with nearly 100% occupancy rates on most routes.

Indian Railways has ambitious plans to introduce a total of 400 Vande Bharat Express trains across the country in the near future, while there are currently 17 semi-high speed trains in operation in India.
