A contractor and his workers have been booked for negligence after a gate to a newly constructed building in Wagoli collapsed last year and fell on a seven-year-old boy, killing him, officials said.
Police have identified the deceased as Arnav Mithilesh Rai, who was a resident of Gulmohar Society, Wagholi. Based on a complaint filed by the boy’s father, Mithilesh Rambachan Rai (36), an FIR was registered at Lonikand Police Station on Friday.
Police have booked three people – contractor Siraj Al Mulla, his two workers Dajeej Khan and Ramprakash Rai under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code (causing death by negligence).
According to a press release issued on Saturday, Muthilesh was working on the new construction site of the Gulmohar Society in Wagholi. His son, Arnav, was playing in the car park on 18 November last year when a gate at the entrance to the building collapsed on him around 4.30pm.
Chief Inspector Gajanan Pawar said the boy died in the accident on the same day.
According to the procedure, an accidental death case was filed and an investigation was opened. During the investigation, it was found that the accused was the one who built the gate. But his quality was not good, and in the end the gate collapsed and led to the death of the boy.”
According to the police, no arrests have been made in the case so far. Sub-Inspector Rahul Kolby said further investigations were underway.
