What has been controversial lately has been Matt Hardy’s comparisons between AEW star Orange Cassidy and The Undertaker. Many have given their opinions on Hardy’s statements, most recently WWE veteran Jim Cornette. At first glance, this is pretty outrageous, but what are Hardy’s grounds for comparing the two?

Matt Hardy claimed that Orange Cassidy and The Undertaker were similar regarding their importance as the “go-to” men to their bosses, in this case, Tony Khan and Vince McMahon. The Undertaker has a reputation for being one of the most important icons in the entire industry. With that in mind, it’s hard to see a comparison because Cassidy and Taker are on completely different levels of each other.

On today’s episode of Cornet Drive-ThruThe veteran gave his raw, unfiltered reaction upon hearing that Hardy compared the AEW International Champion to The Deadman. This was a reaction without the context and background of the statement, so the reaction was entirely justified.

“Oh my God, what, wait, put the brake pump on. Wait a minute, just hit the brakes for a minute. There’s no terrestrial way any human on the planet could see any resemblance between Orange Cassidy and The Undertaker. And Matt Hardy, he can’t He needs a job that bad.” (00:23 to 00:47)

After hearing the context behind Hardy’s statement, Cornette immediately changed the mood and admitted that although the comparison was in the first place outrageous, this was a valid point. However, he believes that AEW needs a better man than Orange Cassidy.

So he’s not saying he’s in any way similar, or acts like, or that there’s any connection to be drawn between “Pockets” and the Undertaker in real life, just in Tony Khan’s somewhat adult mental state the way he looks. I can buy, so Matt’s not crazy. He might still be really looking forward to keeping this job, but he’s not crazy.” (from 01:15 to 01:45)

Jim Cornette talks about the drop in AEW Collision ticket sales

AEW is set to debut its new show, Collision, next Saturday, but ticket sales revenue has been disappointing. While on the podcast, Jim Cornette offered a possible reason for this, which is to book major events on dates close to each other.

“In a week, they’re running the same town twice and they’re running a town 50 miles away. How much money do they think these kings have? How much time do they think they have in their lives? (…) I’ve never seen anyone say, ‘What’s this about? this strategy?”
