Australia beat India comprehensively by 209 runs in the final of the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) to win by shell. The sub-continental side finished as runners-up for the second time in a row after losing to New Zealand in the 2021 World Tennis Championship final.
India started the final day of the 2023 World Tennis Championship final at 164/3 overnight, with Virat Kohli and Ajinkia Rahan swinging. They needed 280 runs to win in the fifth day, while the Australians needed a seven-wicket furlong to bag the puck.
Scott Boland bowled an exceptional spell and constantly tested Rahane and Kohli. His relentless accuracy caused Kohli to lose patience as he chased off off stump to smash a ball to second slip, where he took a blinder to Steve Smith.
Then he sent Australian seamer Ravindra Jadeja down the wing in the same wing to block India’s chase. The sub-continental side could not recover from there as they were bowled out in the first session for just 234 and lost the match by 209 runs.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma explained the reasons for their loss and noted that they had failed as a batting unit. He thought his team had started well on the first day with the ball, but Steve Smith and Travis Head played well and took the game away from them.
Sharma said:
“We started well by winning the toss and putting them in these conditions. We played well in the first session but let ourselves down with the way we played. We have to give credit to Travis Head and Smith. We pulled that off. We put in a good showing, fought hard but Well done in Australia.
he added:
“We’ve talked about a lot of things we’ve been talking about tighter bowling lines but it just didn’t work out. You have to stay in the game for five days but slippers didn’t get our way. It was a great comeback from both Rahane and Shardul. They made a good partnership there And they kept us in the game. We played well in the second half. We fell short with the bat, we didn’t apply ourselves.”
