A total of 114 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed to Manipur. Nowadays, there are a limited number of bulletproof vests that are used by individuals

With at least one more person killed in fresh violence in Manipur on Monday, units of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) have asked their troops to provide more bulletproof vests and helmets amid the evolving situation in the northeastern state.

A total of 114 paramilitary companies are deployed in the state. Nowadays, there are a limited number of bulletproof vests that are used by individuals.

According to an official communication, the Rapid Action Force (RAF), which includes 10 companies of personnel, has ordered 300 body armor.

“The RAF is a riot force but the situation in Manipur is different. The gangs are violent and the armed groups are also involved in creating law and order in the state. Since we are a riot force, we don’t usually carry such items in large numbers, and only carrying a gun is Which carries bulletproof stuff, but in Manipur, the situation is evolving and becoming violent. To address that, we and other forces need certain items for which we have placed requests along with other units,” a senior RAF official told News18.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) also requested such items in contact – “Keeping in mind the evolving situation in Manipur, items are required to meet any unforeseen situation.”

Similarly, a senior BSF official said that given “the situation in the country”, an adequate amount of supplies had been provided, but there was a demand for additional materials.

According to an official of the Manipur administration, four jawans, including from the local police and Bahraini security forces, were killed in the clashes and nearly six and a half injured.

Moreover, the bulletproof materials were stolen from the police stations and found with the miscreants. The local administration is investigating the quantity of these items.

On June 6, suspected Kuki miscreants resorted to shooting indiscriminately at BSF troops deployed at Serou Practical High School in Sogno. During which Constable Ranjit Yadav of the Syrian Security Forces sustained gunshot wounds and was taken to Jeevan Hospital, Kakching, where he was pronounced dead.

The big challenge for the forces is to catch the miscreants who are disguised as police or members of the civil protection force of the state.
