The two were part of a group of five friends, aged between 12 and 16, who ventured out to sea, about half a kilometer from shore, around 5.30pm on Monday but were unable to return.

Rescuers have found the bodies of two of the four boys who went missing at sea off Mumbai’s Juhu Koliwada, an official said on Tuesday.

According to a civilian official, the bodies of 16-year-old Dharmesh Valji Phogya and 15-year-old Shubham Yogesh Bugnia were recovered.

The two were part of a group of five friends, aged 12 to 16, who ventured out to sea, about half a kilometer from shore, around 5:30pm on Monday, but were unable to return.

While one was saved, it was feared that the others drowned.

An official said two of the four missing boys were found on Tuesday. They were sent to the government-run Cooper Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.

The fire department suspended search operations due to darkness and bad weather around 11 p.m. Monday. Prior to this, a Navy helicopter was pressed into service at 8.20pm.

Authorities have already warned people and fishermen not to venture into the sea due to rough conditions ahead of Cyclone Biparjoy’s landfall on the Gujarat coast on June 15.
