A massive fire broke out on the third floor of Satpura Bhawan in Bhopal Member Parliament at around 4pm on Monday, prompting authorities to call fire tenders from army, AAI and oil company facilities.

An official said the huge fire that broke out in Satpura Bhawan, which houses the offices of various departments of the Madhya Pradesh government in Bhopal, was brought under control after a nighttime operation involving the Central Security Forces and Army among other agencies.

A massive fire broke out on the third floor of Satpura Bhawan in Bhopal Member of Parliament at around 4pm on Monday, prompting authorities to call fire tenders from the army, AAI and oil company facilities, officials and senior officials said.

An official said Prime Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah about the fire and asked for help in extinguishing it.

The fire has been brought under control. Bhopal district collector Ashish Singh said all agencies, including the Central Security Force and the army, came together to put out the fire and it was brought under control.”

The fire, which affected the upper third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors of the building and the balcony, can be seen from multiple areas in Bhopal. The damaged building is located on a hill in front of Vallabh Bhawan State Government Secretariat.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (CMO), the Indian Air Force (IAF) AN-52 and MI-15 aircraft were to join the nighttime douching and pouring water using bucket, however, as the douching proceeded, the Bhopal Police Commissioner said Hrinarayan Chari Mishra said in the early hours of Tuesday that there is no need for IAF helicopters.

“The flames have been controlled but there is a cloud of smoke in various places, due to the possibility of catching fire later but the teams are working. So far, there is no need (for IAF helicopters). Primarily,” said Bhopal Harinarayan Police Commissioner Chari Mishra. It appeared that the cause of the fire was due to an electrical short circuit, but a team of experts was formed to investigate it.

On Monday evening, officials said the fire destroyed furniture and documents of several departments. The Prime Minister’s Office said fire tenders and firefighters were called from the army, Indian Oil Corporation, BPCL, Airports Authority of India, BHEL and from Mandideep and Raisen.
