The clash between locals and police personnel in Pillar village of Uttarakhand was reported to have erupted over the investigation into an alleged murder.

The ban orders were imposed under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in Rorkee, Uttarakhand state after a scuffle between locals and police in Bilra village on Monday night left nearly six policemen injured, reports said.

The clash was reportedly triggered by the investigation into an alleged killing there.

The county administration authorities issued ban orders under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CPC) Section 144 and deployed security forces in the entire village area to control the situation.

It was alleged that some people threw stones at the police teams, injuring approximately six individuals. A few vehicles were also allegedly set on fire, forcing the police to use force and use tear gas to disperse the mob.

“More than 24 people have been arrested so far,” the police said.

According to the officials, the villagers were not satisfied with the investigation that was done in the death of a person and claimed that the person was murdered but nothing as such was found in the investigation.

SSP Haridwar Ajay Singh told the news agency years“A person died and they (the villagers) claim that the person was killed but nothing was found in the investigation.”

“Some miscreants threw stones at the police today. More than 24 people have been arrested. It appears (the attack on the police) was a conspiracy,” Singh said, adding that an investigation is underway.

The situation is under control, Singh said, adding that the police are looking into the matter further.
