The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Tuesday threw its weight behind the ongoing protest at Pipli in Kurukshetra in Haryana and demanded that the state pay attention to farmers who are demanding Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crops.

On Tuesday, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dami expressed support for the protesting farmers unions and said, “It is disappointing that farmers in Haryana have to struggle for their legitimate demands. We urge the state government to ensure that their crops are bought at MSP. Farmers are demanding MSP consecration and crop purchase is at MSP. The law is completely legitimate and should not be condoned by the authorities.”

The SGPC president also lamented about the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) – nominated by the state government – which allegedly failed to provide langar (free community kitchen food) to the protesters.

Dhami recalled how, during the time when SGPC ran gurdwaras in Haryana, continuous langar service of farmers’ protest in Delhi was ensured for a whole year. He said, “The principles of the Guru home are rooted in supporting those in need and those fighting for their just claims, in line with Sikh teachings. Therefore, when government-appointed committees prioritize their loyalty to government rather than support for humanity, they are directly opposed to Sikh principles.”
