Sean O’Malley is set to get his first title opportunity when he challenges Aljamain Sterling for the heavyweight belt at UFC 292. Featherweight champion Aleksandr Volkanovski believes the No. 2 ranked bantamweight will make up during his title bout.

Speaking to David Adesanya on gambler Al-Azim YouTube channel stated:

“It’s hard. I think hitting O’Malley is a lot better. Don’t get me wrong, hitting Al Juman isn’t too bad. It’s still good, it’s hard, and he has to push especially when you’re doing it.” There’s going to be this wrestling threat, the backpack threat. This will definitely play a factor.”

Follow Alexander Volkanovsky:

“I think Sean O’Malley definitely has the confidence to stay composed and be sharp on his feet and I don’t hesitate too much because of that, but I mean, if I had to lean towards someone, five rounds, maybe Aljo, but I could definitely see Sean O’Malley catch with it “.

Aljamain Sterling stock predictions for the next Sean O’Malley match

Aljamain Sterling is only set to have a three-month turnaround when he faces Sean O’Malley at UFC 292 in August. The bantamweight champion doesn’t think that will be a problem as he expects he will finish his opponent in the first round. Speaking with Ariel Halawani MMA watch‘Funk Master’ said:

“We saw him once on his back and he was like a fish on the ground. ‘Cheeto’ smashed him and brought him home. I think ‘Cheeto’ probably hit him once, his eyes rolling down his head. That’s not a good sign.”

Sterling added:

“He’s got a little head. He’s tall, he talks about my weight but he’s skinny, he’s a twig. He got hit once and he was out, so it gave me a little more confidence. I don’t think you could develop a chin over time. I hit him head on, take him off, this fight As good as finished, perhaps in one.”

O’Malley’s only career loss came in the first round against Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera at UFC 252. While many felt he lost his final bout, against Petr Yan at UFC 280, ‘Sugar’ won by split decision, earning himself a title opportunity.
