Former Australian player Brad Hogg believes England will win the 2023 Ashes if they stick to their aggressive style of play and put pressure on the Australians. He also singled out bowling as one of the factors that could make a huge difference in the outcome of the series.
England and Australia will resume their iconic rivalry when they close in for the first Ashes 2023 test at Edgbaston in Birmingham, starting on Friday, 16 June. 22 ashes.
However, Hogg feels the latest edition of the competition will be more competitive. It even gave the home side a slight advantage.
The former cricketer shared his views on his YouTube channel:
“For me it’s a very even contest, but you have to look at England. They’ve won all seven Test matches they’ve chased over the past year under (coach) Brendon McCullum. Batting first, they’ve only lost two Test matches out of five. They’re getting Has a good conversion rate by playing aggressive cricket.
Anticipating that all five tests would yield results, Hogg added:
“I think if England continues with their aggressive style, and puts pressure on Australia, I think they will win. I think the difference will be in the spin department – who can get more wickets between Moeen Ali and Nathan Lyon’s flow of runs.”
Moeen Ali exited Test cricket after receiving an SOS from captain Ben Stokes following an injury to off-spin Jack Leach.
‘I don’t think they should’ – Hogg on Stokes wants flat wicket for Ashes 2023
As part of the build-up to the 2023 Ashes, England captain Stokes has commented that he wants flat wickets for the Test series against Australia. However, Hogg believes the move could backfire on the hosts.
The 52-year-old saw:
“They want to go in with a flat hemorrhoid – that’s what Ben Stokes said. I don’t think they should do that. I think that will play to Australia’s advantage. Australia’s got a bit more pace as well as jump in the bowling section. They have to deal with wicket that rolls in a bit to let their bowlers bowling with advantage. The batsmen can still play hard on those wickets with the ball coming in.”
Sharing his thoughts on England’s “Bazball” approach, Hough concluded that how the hosts respond when the chips are down could determine their performance in Ashes 2023.
He said:
“They provide a lot of entertainment. There’s a lot of emotion to the way England play. The only downside to England in this Test series is, if things get a little rough in the middle with the bat, can they adapt and graft those long runs? I think they can that “.
The last time England won the Ashes was in 2015 at home. The 2019 series in England was drawn 2-2.
