The big question looming at the opening Ashes Test in Edgbaston on Friday is whether Australia will play the same eleven as the WTC final or Scott Boland will be replaced by Josh Hazlewood.

The Australians have arguably the best attack in the world and coach Andrew McDonald has said there will be discussions about who among the Australian batteries will feature in the playing XI.

“Obviously we made some decisions about our fast bowlers during the five Test matches at the Ashes,” McDonald told SEN’s Whateley.

“It won’t be any different in this test match as it will be almost every test match.

“It will be discussed, there are short periods of time, it will be a physical and mental task for the fast bowlers so that they can pass five Tests plus the extra World Test Championship.

“It’s six Test matches in that intense period of time, so we have some decisions to make, and they will be relevant throughout the five Ashes Test match journey.”

“We frame it as we do in every other series, we don’t change the way we do it just because it’s ashes and every test match counts.

“Demands that are placed in front of you in short periods of time really lead you to make different decisions at different times.”
