While the school principal said the teacher responsible for playing the call to prayer has been suspended, the police said they are conducting an investigation although no case has been registered so far.

Parents and political activists staged a protest on Friday at a private school in the suburb of Kandivali after the ‘adhan’ was played during the morning assembly.

While the school principal said the teacher responsible for playing the call to prayer has been suspended, the police said they are conducting an investigation although no case has been registered so far.

Some parents said that Azzan was played on a loudspeaker during an assembly session at school around 7 am.

BJP MLA Yogesh Sagar, who joined the protest, claimed that it was done on purpose rather than by mistake, and that the school was trying to protect the teacher responsible.

The principal of the school told the media that the teacher had been suspended.

“We promise that this will not happen from now on,” said the Principal, adding that Saraswati Puja, Ganapati Puja and Navratri Puja are also taking place in the school.

“A complaint was received in Kandivali today that the adhan was playing during dawn prayers in a school. An investigation is underway,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajay Kumar Bansal said.
