CM Bhupendra Patel’s commitment to achieving ‘zero casualties’ has proven to be a lifeline for people living in coastal areas, particularly pregnant women.

Amid fears of Cyclone Bebarjoy, a poignant scene has unfolded in Gujarat as the state government has worked hard to ensure the safety and well-being of pregnant women. Despite strong winds and heavy rain, a total of 709 pregnant women were successfully rescued and taken to hospitals. It is remarkable that two children were placed inside the state government ambulances “108”.

CM Bhupendra Patel’s commitment to achieving ‘zero infection’ has proven to be a lifeline for people living in coastal areas, especially pregnant women.

The health department, along with other government departments, has meticulously prepared and deployed a number of “108” ambulances to deal with the impact of the typhoon. As a result, 1,152 pregnant women out of 1,171 in the cyclone-affected areas were safely transported to safe areas.

Two pregnant women successfully gave birth inside ambulance “108” amid cyclonic storm, strong winds and heavy rains in Amreli district. The woman went into labor before she could leave Bhaider village, but they were helped in time and successfully delivered their children and were later taken to hospital for further care.

It is worth noting that the Gujarat government has prepared a comprehensive list for pregnant women residing in the cyclone-affected areas in advance. Before the arrival of the cyclone, these women were safely transported to the hospitals or secure locations using ambulances.

Of the 1,152 pregnant women relocated, 552 are from Kutch, 176 are from Rajkot, 135 are from Devbhumi Dwarka, 94 are from Gir Somnath, 62 are from Jamnagar, 58 are from Junagadh, 33 are from Porbandar, and 26 are from Rajkot Municipal District. In addition, there were 8 women from Junagadh Municipal Corporation District, 4 from Morbi and 4 from Jamnagar Municipal Corporation District.

Of the 1,152 pregnant women who were transported safely, 709 were able to deliver their babies in the midst of the typhoon, thanks to preparedness, extensive precautions and coordinated efforts by the state government, health department and concerned county departments.

While two women from Amreli district gave birth in “108” ambulances, the remaining 707 women gave birth in hospitals. Among them 348 are from Kutch, 100 are from Rajkot, 93 are from Devbhumi Dwarka, 69 are from Somnath, 30 are from Porbandar, 25 are from Junagadh, 17 are from Jamnagar, 12 are from Rajkot Municipal Corporation and 8 are from Junagadh Municipal Corporation. , 4 from Jamnagar Municipal Corporation Area, and 1 from Morbi.
