Inspector Ratan Chand Sharda, Head of Criminal Investigation Agency at Phagwara in Kapurtala district of Punjab, was shot dead by two unidentified youths who were allegedly extremists. Sharda was shot dead at his office on Phagwara-Panga Road, about 100 yards from the city’s police station. He left behind his wife, daughters and two sons. Rajinder Kumar Sharda, the son of the deceased, was to be engaged on that day.
