The decision to roll back changes made in textbook syllabi during the BJP’s tenure was one of the promises made by the Congress in the run-up to the state elections. Soon after the meeting of the writers and intellectuals with Prime Minister Siddaramaiah, the Congress government formed a provisional committee headed by the eminent thinker Paraguru Ramachandrapa to analyze the curriculum and report on the necessary changes to be made. The committee will then implement the necessary changes.

As the academic year has already started, the government will provide an additional handbook for students with the necessary changes. Printing of these booklets will cost around 10-12 lakhs and will be made available to the students within 6-10 days as claimed by the State Education Minister.

Speaking after the cabinet meeting held two days ago where a decision was taken on the revision of textbooks, Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa outlined the details.

“In accordance with our commitment in our statement and in the interest of the students, there will be changes in classes. For one month, the main subjects will not be taught. So what we thought of is to give a supplementary booklet with all the changes for one month. In less than 10 days it will reach all schools Now, my task is to print it as soon as possible and deliver it to the schools.

“The supplementary handbook will only be for this academic year. To change the thinking process, and to achieve better studies, we will set up a technical team to work on planning the next academy just now,” said the Minister of Education for the next year.
