Reina ignited both goals, then left in the first half with a calf injury and was replaced by Luca Di Torre. Reina’s lack of World Cup training hustle and bustle and his family’s angry response sparked the controversy that allowed Berhalter’s departure in January.
Reina’s corner kick found Richards unmarked and headed home from 7 yards to the left of goalkeeper Milan Borgan for his first goal in 10 caps.

Notes: The game aired on Paramount+ while CBS Sports aired the Canadian Football League and sprint cars. … Mexico beat Panama 1-0 in the match for third place on a goal from Jesus Gallardo in the fourth minute. An apparent equalizer scored by AnÃbal Godoy on a bicycle kick in the 55th minute was ruled out on video review for offside, and a 76th-minute penalty awarded to Mexico by Jamaican referee Danon Parchman was reversed on video review.
