In a bid to promote tourism and uplift Mumbai’s local heritage, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to deploy food trucks in the city’s Koliwadas which will serve Koli cuisine.

According to BMC officials, the civic body will deploy two such trucks at Macchimar Colony Koliwada, near Badhwar Park. BMC has already started a facelift plan for Macchimar Nagar.

To operate the food trucks, BMC has connected local NGOs and self-help groups with civic officials saying it is also an effort to provide economic opportunity to the indigenous Koli community members.

Civil officials said that a fund of Rs 34.51 lakh has been reserved for this project and two food trucks will cost around Rs 28 lakh. Civilian officials said the trucks will be deployed shortly after the facelift is completed and the walkway is open to the public.
