Kade Ruotolo’s training camp and fight against Tommy Langaker weren’t just sunshine and rainbows, for the man himself.

In an interview with the South China Morning Post after his victory over the Norwegian star at ONE Fight Night 11, the world lightweight champion revealed that he had been suffering from a minor injury during the final weeks of his camp that forced him into the competition at less than 100 percent.

As a result, the afro-haired phenom had to rely on her instincts and mental fortitude to race across the finish line inside Lumpini Boxing Stadium on June 9.

Kade Ruotolo told SCMP MMA:

“That (the way I got the win) kind of gets me down to earth and makes me think that no matter what, I had the injury before the previous games, and at the end of the day, no matter what’s going on physically with you, it all tops off kind of mentally.”

As soon as the match started, Kade Ruotolo came up with a vengeance and immediately pressed his opponent with work from the top. Despite trying to get past the guard and into better positions, Langacker’s leg lock and tangle ensured he had a challenger right where he wanted him to be.

The two moved back and forth in positions at a high pace during the entire match. However, after the 10-minute fight, Kade Ruotolo left the ring by unanimous decision pushing his promotion record to a perfect 4-0.
