PM Modi in US: Mary Millben, Known for ‘Jan Gana Mana’, ‘Om Jai Jagdish Hare’ to Perform During PM’s Events

Prominent African-American actress, singer and model Mary Milbin is set to captivate audiences in New York and Washington during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit next week.

Melpin, who is famous in India for her singing of the national anthem Yan Gana Mana and Om Jai Jagdish Hare, will attend the 9th International Day of Yoga at the United Nations Headquarters on June 21 with Prime Minister Modi in the North Lawn of the United Nations Headquarters.

She will join UN General Assembly President Chapa Kurosi, India’s Ambassador to the UN Ruchira Kamobage and New York City Mayor Eric Adams in welcoming Prime Minister Modi to this first event in the United States.

She was also invited to perform during the Indian Diaspora event at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington on 23 June.

Prime Minister Modi is visiting the US from June 21-24 at the invitation of US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. They will host Modi in a state dinner on June 22.

The visit also includes an address to the joint session of Congress on June 22. He will address an invitation-only gathering of diaspora leaders from across the country at the Ronald Reagan Building and the International Trade Center in Washington on June 23.

I have great anticipation and great excitement when the Prime Minister visits the United States next week. Melbin said the visit celebrates the relationship between the United States and India, the two largest democracies in the world and the most important relationship in the world today.

Officially invited by the Steering Committee for the Prime Minister’s Official State Visit, Melbin has been confirmed to perform for Prime Minister Modi and guests at an invitation only, Diaspora Reception hosted by the American Indian Community Foundation (USICF) at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C. on Friday, June 23 .

“It is a great honor to perform at this meaningful gathering of the diaspora in Washington, D.C. to welcome Prime Minister Modi,” she added.

Milbin said, “Our shared bonds of freedom and democracy make the relationship between the United States and India the strongest force on earth for democracy, the best model of unity as a family, and the symbol of freedom for generations to come.

Her global rendition of the Indian national anthem, performed virtually in 2020 to celebrate the 74th anniversary of India’s Independence Day, has also been hailed by millions across the US and India as the cherished Hindu hymn Om Jai Jagdish Hare’ to celebrate Diwali 2020. And the world.

Following in the footsteps of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his pilgrimage to India in 1959, August 2022, she made her historic first trip to India in celebration of India’s 75th Independence Anniversary as an official guest from the United States invited by the Government of India, Ministry of External Affairs and Indian Council for Cultural Relations. She made history as the first African American and American artist to be invited to India to celebrate Independence Day and to an audience of 1.4 billion people.
