According to the Gujarat Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA) precipitation data, Gujarat received 10.18 percent of its annual average rainfall on June 19, of which Kutch received 63.32 percent.

The Kutch district of Gujarat, which shares a border with Pakistan and is an arid region considered drought-prone, has been hit with heavy rains this year that was compounded by the recent Cyclone Bibarjoy that hit the region on June 15.

Although the southwest monsoon has yet to begin in Gujarat, the arid region of Kutch already received 63 percent of its average annual rainfall on June 19, the highest rainfall so far in the state. Cyclone Piparjoy caused heavy rains in most parts of Kutch district and some parts of Saurashtra district.

According to precipitation data of the Gujarat Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA), Gujarat received 10.18 percent of its annual average rainfall on June 19, with Kutch receiving 63.32 percent, North Gujarat 20.28 percent, Saurashtra 15.19 percent, East Central 4 per cent and southern Gujarat has received 1 per cent of the average annual precipitation so far.

Heavy rains in parts of Gujarat brought smiles to the faces of farmers as they started sowing seeds in their farms.

“Sowing has been done in the state and sowing has been completed in an area of ​​2.70 hectares in the state so far. Notable crops grown in the state include cotton, groundnuts, fodder, etc. ‘The sowing will accelerate once the southwest monsoon blows into the state entering from South Gujarat in the state ”.
