The Miami Hurricanes added another talented prospect to their class of 2024 as 4-star tight end Elija Lofton committed to the program. He’s one of the best tight prospects in the class and the best player to come out of Nevada, so this could be a great addition to the team. Lofton has had offers from Arizona, Hawaii, California and Colorado to name a few teams interested in the 6-2, 220-pound prospect.

There are a lot of standouts in the Miami Hurricanes offense and it should be interesting to see how he develops in that program.

What should we expect from the Miami Hurricanes this season?

The Miami Hurricanes have had a lot of changes to their offensive line with only sophomore right guard Anez Cooper returning as the starter. The Hurricanes have been on a bit of a lull as head coach Mario Cristobal tries to get his buddies involved with the program and find his footing as head coach here.

The program finished 5-7 (3-5) during the 2022 season in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Miami finished fifth in the ACC with 239.8 yards per game but combined for 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Their defense wasn’t as good as a program with a series turnover that allowed 26.8 points per game last year.

Many of the 2022 roster are returning and they need to figure out how to progress in Mario Cristobal’s Team Season 2. Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson is the latest employee on the coaching staff to really try to take the next step as an airstrike offense. Former midfielder Tyler van Dijk suffered an upper body injury last season that put his hopes out. He’s a solid quarterback and with Dawson’s offense, Tyler Van Dyke should be able to improve his ten touchdowns to five interceptions.

The ACC is going to be tough with teams like the Clemson Tigers, Florida State Seminoles, North Carolina Tar Heels, Syracuse Orange, and Pittsburgh Panthers all in the conference and the Miami Hurricanes haven’t greatly improved from last season. They’re counting on health to be the reason they struggled last season, and while there should be some improvement, they still aren’t expected to sniff out the ACC Championship Game in 2023.
