Paris Saint-Germain is said to have set its sights on re-signing former player Moussa Diaby. The Frenchman has been a target for Arsenal, but they may have to face competition when the Ligue 1 side begin looking for a replacement for Lionel Messi.

According to a report in L’Equipe, Paris Saint-Germain entered the race for Diaby after it was reported that Messi had left the club. The Frenchman has been at his best for Bayer Leverkusen, but is yet to sign a new deal at the club. He has just over two years left on his current deal and is taking his time considering extending his contract at the Bundesliga club.

Diaby admitted that Paris Saint-Germain, the team he left in 2019, remains a special club for him. However, he compared them to a former partner and claimed he couldn’t think much of the Ligue 1 side. He told Le Parisien in 2022:

“PSG is still a special club in my heart. I can’t tell you if I’ll get a place there, but if you’re still there, I’ll give everything to get the same place I do with Bayer Leverkusen. Go ahead if you think a lot about me.” Your ex-girlfriends (laughs).

When asked about his decision to leave the French national team, Diaby added:

“I was in my comfort zone because I was born in Paris, I lived in Paris, I did everything in Paris… I had to change environments and see elsewhere, by discovering a new role, a new language, new people. It was not a choice Easy but I decided to do it and stick with it.”

The 23-year-old has scored 14 goals and assisted 10 for the German national team this season in all competitions.

Paris Saint-Germain was asked not to join Arsenal by the journalist

England journalist Jonathan Johnston believes Moussa Diaby should not join Arsenal in the summer. He added that Newcastle United would be a better fit for the Frenchman and told CaughtOffside:

“I think Moussa Diaby’s name will come a lot before the summer because he’s grown a lot since he left PSG to move to Germany with Bayer Leverkusen. We’re seeing links with the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle, and PSG themselves have also been linked with an interest in re-signing him.”

Paris Saint-Germain is now leading the race for the Frenchman, while Neymar’s future is also hanging in the balance.
